Data sovereignty: your voice never leaves your device — or your country
Data sovereignty is the principle that your data is subject to the laws of the place it lives. With VoiceNote, that place is the computer in front of you. Nothing is stored in another region, another cloud, or another jurisdiction — because nothing is stored anywhere but your machine.
The short version
Every word you dictate is transcribed and written on your own device, and stays there. There is no cloud region to choose, no data-residency setting to configure, and no border for your data to cross. The strongest possible form of data sovereignty is simply not moving the data at all.
Why on-device is the ultimate data residency
Residency debates usually come down to "which cloud region will hold my data?" VoiceNote removes the question entirely. Your dictation is resident on the endpoint, under the laws of wherever that device physically sits. If your laptop is in Sydney, your data is in Sydney.
It works fully air-gapped
Because nothing needs a network connection after the one-time model download, VoiceNote runs on fully air-gapped machines — secure facilities, classified environments, or simply a plane at 38,000 feet. Switch off the network and dictation keeps working, which is the clearest possible proof that your data isn't going anywhere.
Sovereignty by region
| Region / regime | How VoiceNote satisfies it |
|---|---|
| Australia (Privacy Act / APPs, government data) | Data stays on Australian soil — on the user's device. VoiceNote is made in Sydney by Stipple AI Pty Ltd. |
| EU / UK (GDPR) | No cross-border transfer of dictation; nothing leaves the device. |
| US (HIPAA, and CJIS-style handling) | PHI and sensitive data are never transmitted; suitable for endpoint-only handling. |
| Canada & others with residency laws | Data is resident wherever the device is; no foreign cloud storage in the loop. |
For government, defence and regulated industry
- Air-gapped / offline-capable by default.
- No vendor cloud anywhere in the data path.
- No sub-processors handling your content.
- Deployable on managed, locked-down endpoints.
