VoiceNote is early and moving fast. Here's what's shipped so far.

v0.1.16August 2026
  • The free trial is now 30 days or 10,000 dictated words, whichever comes first — up from three days. Three days wasn't long enough to reach the point VoiceNote is actually good at: it takes a few corrections before it starts getting your names and vocabulary right.
  • Fixed two command windows appearing behind the app on launch. They were the local writing model starting up, and they should never have been visible.
  • Fixed a blank window on first run. The setup wizard — pick a speech model, download it, grant microphone access — was there all along, behind an empty white window, which is why new installs looked broken until you opened Settings from the tray.

  • Fixed a bug that stopped VoiceNote starting at all on some Windows PCs. The app needed Microsoft's Visual C++ runtime, which most computers already have from some other program — but on a clean machine it was missing and nothing would open. VoiceNote now ships that runtime itself, so it launches on any Windows 10 or 11 PC.

  • A new privacy switch hides the VoiceNote window from screen sharing and screen recordings, so it stays out of shot when you're presenting.
  • Voice commands now run from a fixed allow-list, with a redacted log kept on your machine of what ran — so a stray phrase can't trigger something you didn't intend.
  • Hardening throughout: a strict content-security policy on the app window, and no environment variable can change how a release build behaves.
  • Mac: the download is now properly signed. Earlier 0.1.14 Mac downloads were reported by macOS as "damaged" and refused to open — if you hit that, delete the old copy and download again from voicenote.au.

  • VoiceNote now updates itself on Windows: when a new version ships, a banner in the app updates and restarts you in one click — no more re-downloading installers. Every update is cryptographically signed, and the app only ever installs updates signed by us.
  • In charge of your network: the update check sends only the app version to our download server — never any dictation data — and a new Preferences switch turns it off entirely. A Check now button lets you check by hand.
  • Live captions now scroll like a teleprompter — the newest words always stay in view — and they keep streaming no matter how long you talk. Previously they froze after about 25 seconds.
  • Mac auto-update arrives with code-signing in a later release; for now Mac updates from voicenote.au as before.

  • Live captions: watch your words appear while you're still speaking. The overlay streams the transcript in real time as you dictate — written entirely on your device, like everything else.
  • A redesigned overlay: a sleek panel at the top of your screen with a live waveform, the app you're dictating into, and your finished text held long enough to actually read it.
  • Fixed: your finished dictation now always appears in the overlay when it's done — it no longer depends on your clipboard settings.
  • A redesigned Overview dashboard: flip between week, month, and all time — words dictated, speaking speed, time saved, and accuracy with trends, a daily activity chart, and your recent dictations at a glance.

  • Corrections you teach VoiceNote are now safe: a fix for a common word can never quietly take over the rest of your writing. Risky ones are held aside for you to confirm in a new Saved corrections panel, where you can see, restore, or remove any of them.
  • Cleaner dictation: stutters and repeats — "it's it's it's", "what to what to" — are tidied automatically before formatting, so your text reads the way you meant it.
  • A fairer accuracy score: it's now word-level, so a small fix in a long dictation reads as 98%, not zero.
  • Meeting transcripts get your saved corrections too, not just live dictation.

  • When your free trial ends, VoiceNote now shows you the way forward instead of going quiet — a clear prompt the moment you try to dictate, and one click to a screen where you can buy and enter your key in one place.
  • A heads-up on your last trial day, so the trial ending is never a surprise.
  • Smoother licensing: activation now gives clear, helpful messages if something's off, and it's easier to find and enter your key.

  • Meeting summaries no longer invent details — a summary now contains only what was actually said. If a call had no budget, deadline, or launch date, your summary won't mention one.
  • Regenerate a summary in one click: if a meeting's summary isn't quite right, the Regenerate button rewrites it straight from the transcript — no re-recording.
  • Connect VoiceNote to your own AI tools: a new local, read-only MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, and any MCP client read your dictation history and meeting transcripts to answer questions or draft follow-ups. Your voice data never leaves your machine — you choose which tool reads it.
  • Privacy and security hardening for the new local connections.

  • Meeting summaries now work for real-length meetings — a timeout meant summaries quietly failed on anything longer than a few minutes. A 30-minute call now summarizes reliably.
  • Better summaries: the summarizer now insists on the accurate writing model, and a quality guard makes sure you get a real summary or an honest error — never filler.
  • If a summary ever fails, the meeting keeps its transcript and shows a Write summary button — one click retries without re-recording anything.
  • Fixed 16 GB machines being wrongly excluded from the two-model setup — if you have both writing models installed, quick notes and meeting summaries now each use the right one.

  • Never lose a dictation: the text now stays on your clipboard after every dictation, so if it landed nowhere — no field focused — it's one Ctrl+V away. Alt+Shift+V pastes your last dictation again, any time.
  • History: a new screen with every dictation — searchable, copyable, and re-stylable (turn yesterday's rambling note into an email with one click; the result goes to your clipboard).
  • Diagnostics: when dictation misbehaves, the app now explains itself — mic level test, model and formatter status, an end-to-end test box, and a one-click report you can send us. The overlay shows a small amber dot if something that should be running isn't.
  • Press Esc while dictating to cancel — nothing is transcribed, typed, or kept.
  • History is text-only and lives on your device; audio is still only ever kept if you've turned learning on.

  • Formatting styles for how you actually work: legal file notes, clinical notes, engineering notes that never touch your code, and casual chat that keeps your slang — pick a default or set one per app.
  • Verbatim mode: a single switch that makes VoiceNote type exactly what you said — punctuation and fillers tidied, your saved corrections applied, and no AI rewriting at all.
  • Spoken numbers come out written: "three thirty pm" becomes 3:30pm, "the fifth of March" becomes 5 March, "forty eight thousand dollars" becomes $48,000.
  • Smarter under the hood: with both writing models installed, quick notes use the fast model and emails or file notes use the accurate one — automatically.
  • Emails stay in your voice: VoiceNote now fixes errors and structure without ever making you sound more formal than you were.

  • Meetings: record a call and get a timestamped transcript labelled You and Others, then a summary with action items — all written on your device by local models. It captures your computer's own audio, so it works with any meeting app — Zoom, Teams, Meet — and no bot ever joins the call. Included in every tier. Windows first; Mac is coming in a later update.
  • Recorded meeting audio is deleted the moment transcription finishes, by default — there's a toggle in Preferences if you'd rather keep it.
  • Start or stop a meeting from the app, the system tray, or with Alt+Shift+M — a small recording dot on the overlay shows whenever a meeting is being captured.

  • New Overview dashboard: see the time you've saved versus typing, your accuracy trend, and the words VoiceNote has learned — all measured on your own device.
